Heavy Equipment Operator – Moab, UT

About the role

North Wind Portage, Inc. is seeking a qualified Heavy Equipment Operator to support the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project. The role involves safely operating a variety of heavy equipment to excavate, transport, and manage low‑level radioactive waste tailings.

Key responsibilities

• Operate front‑end loaders, excavators, backhoes, dozers, articulated dump trucks, reach stackers, water trucks and other equipment in compliance with project policies and federal, state, and local regulations.
• Conduct thorough pre‑operation inspections, complete required paperwork, and maintain production schedules to meet service timelines.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least three years of construction‑related heavy equipment experience.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends and night shifts, and to pass background, drug tests and obtain a U.S. Government PIV card.

Required skills

• Operation and basic maintenance of heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, backhoes, dozers, articulated dump trucks and reach stackers.
• HAZWOPER certification and qualification as a DOE Radiation Worker II.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to work in personal protective equipment under various weather conditions.
