Health Information Management Technician III (Remote)

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Health Information Management is seeking a full‑time Health Information Management (HIM) Technician III to work remotely. The role focuses on processing release‑of‑information requests with expert knowledge of medical record handling and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Create, process, and fulfill 35‑60 release‑of‑information requests per day with 95‑100% accuracy.
• Prioritize requests by requestor type to meet internal turnaround times of 24‑48 hours.
• Apply HIPAA, TPO, and information‑blocking regulations to ensure compliant disclosures.
• Validate restrictions, apply fee schedules, and manage secure electronic transmission (encrypted email, fax).
• Identify deficiencies, track document imaging, and support electronic discovery requirements.

Required profile

• Expert‑level experience in health information management and medical record processing.
• Strong understanding of HIPAA, release‑of‑information authorizations, and protected health information handling.
• Ability to interpret retention requirements and special authorizations.
• Detail‑oriented with a focus on accuracy and regulatory compliance.
