Health Information Management Technician (HIM 2) – Full Time

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Health Information Management Technician (HIM 2) to support medical staff in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. The role focuses on deficiency management and dictation/transcription within the electronic health record, ensuring accurate and compliant patient documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze inpatient, ambulatory surgery, outpatient and behavioral health records following established procedures.
• Review, assign, track and reconcile completion requirements for medical records to ensure compliance with billing, coding and regulatory standards.
• Notify physicians weekly of incomplete and delinquent records via calls and letters, and track suspension data.
• Track and report documentation status for coding purposes, including operative reports.
• Accurately manage the status of transcribed medical reports in the electronic deficiency system.
• Research and resolve discrepancies in dictation queues to ensure timely completion.
• Prepare and update pre‑suspension and suspension lists as needed.
• Maintain high accuracy and productivity standards while adhering to university policies.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent; relevant experience, certification or license.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in health information management.
• Ability to learn new procedures, technologies and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong teamwork orientation and collaborative mindset.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
• Experience in dictation and transcription processes.
