Head Roaster & Coffee Lead (Tanzania)

About the role

We are launching a Tanzanian specialty coffee company and need a senior professional to lead green‑bean sourcing, develop roast profiles, run the roastery and build a local production team. The role is full‑time, based at our headquarters in Usa River, northern Tanzania.

Key responsibilities

• Build and manage direct relationships with cooperatives and estates across Kilimanjaro, Mbeya, Mbinga and the Matengo Highlands.
• Source, cup, evaluate and select green coffee; negotiate contracts and oversee sample logistics.
• Develop roast profiles and a Tanzanian house blend that reflects the origin.
• Implement quality‑control procedures: cupping protocols, batch records and traceability.
• Run day‑to‑day roastery operations – scheduling, packing and batch quality monitoring.
• Recruit, train and lead local roasting and production staff.
• Specify and shape the final roasting equipment setup.

Required profile

• Proven experience in specialty coffee sourcing, roasting and production.
• Strong palate and ability to evaluate green coffee.
• Willingness to travel regularly within Tanzania.
• Leadership skills to build and mentor a new team.
