nium · San Francisco
Job description
About the role
Nium, a global leader in real-time, cross-border payments, is looking for a Global Vertical Head of Regulatory Compliance to serve as the senior compliance partner to its Platforms business. The role works closely with Sales, Business Development, Partnerships, Account Management, Product, Legal and country compliance teams to identify regulatory considerations early, embed local requirements into commercial strategy and enable compliant opportunities. It is commercially focused, covering platforms and marketplaces and the compliance outcomes of relationships with bank partners, card networks, stablecoin networks and other payment infrastructure partners.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as senior compliance advisor to the Platforms vertical's commercial leadership and go-to-market teams, engaging early in sales and business development to identify compliance considerations.
- Bridge commercial teams and country compliance teams, translating regulatory requirements into actionable guidance and helping teams understand Nium's risk appetite.
- Own compliance outcomes for bank partners, card networks, stablecoin networks and other payment infrastructure partners, and advise on two-tier business models where Nium provides payment capabilities to platforms serving merchants or customers.
- Support compliant solutions for new platform models, products and payment flows, and give practical guidance on AML/CTF, sanctions, KYC/KYB, due diligence, licensing and payment regulations.
- Evaluate higher-risk or nonstandard opportunities, coordinate escalations affecting negotiations or onboarding, and build scalable compliance frameworks, playbooks and decision standards.
- Deliver training to commercial teams, represent the vertical in the global compliance organization, and report material compliance risks and emerging trends to senior leadership.
Required profile
- 12+ years of progressive experience in compliance, regulatory risk, financial crime, legal or a related function in payments, fintech, banking or financial services.
- Significant experience advising commercial, sales, business development, partnership or account management teams, and experience with bank, card network, stablecoin or payment infrastructure partners.
- Experience with platforms, marketplaces, embedded finance, payment facilitators or similar businesses, and with new products, market expansion or customer onboarding.
- Experience serving alongside or with an MLRO, BSA Officer, Chief Compliance Officer or country compliance leader.
- Executive presence, strong judgment and communication, and ability to balance commercial objectives with regulatory obligations.
Required skills
- Deep knowledge of AML/CTF, sanctions, KYC/KYB, customer due diligence, licensing and payments regulation.
- Strong knowledge of cross-border payments, money movement, payment platforms and complex B2B relationships.
- Ability to connect commercial teams with country compliance, regulatory and licensing stakeholders in a global, matrixed organization.
Preferred: experience with enterprise payments, marketplaces, embedded finance, payment APIs or banking-as-a-service; familiarity with cross-border payment licensing frameworks; direct engagement with external customers, bank partners, auditors or regulators; CAMS, CRCM, legal qualification or another compliance certification.
