Head of Communications – North America

About the role

Canva is looking for a senior communications leader to own and scale its brand narrative across North America. Reporting to the Global Communications team and working closely with the North America CMO, you will drive consumer storytelling that builds awareness, adoption and advocacy for Canva’s products.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute proactive consumer‑focused communications strategies, campaigns and pitches that secure high‑impact media coverage.
• Grow Canva’s consumer profile by leveraging strategic media relations, editorial placements and creative campaigns across the outlets creators, professionals and businesses consume.
• Identify and activate cultural and trend‑driven moments in partnership with the broader Marketing team to keep Canva top‑of‑mind.
• Build and nurture trusted relationships with reporters, producers, creators and influential voices across broadcast, print, digital, podcast and emerging platforms.
• Develop data‑driven storytelling programs that turn internal metrics into compelling narratives for external audiences.
• Plan and execute virtual and in‑person press events, brand activations and media experiences.
• Partner with global and regional teams to deliver internal communications that align with key business milestones.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading communications or public‑relations for a consumer‑focused brand in North America.
• Demonstrated ability to craft and amplify stories that resonate with creators, professionals and business audiences.
• Strong network of media contacts across multiple platforms and a track record of securing coverage in top outlets.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen sense of cultural relevance.
