Grocery Team Leader

About the role

Meijer is looking for a Grocery Team Leader in Auburn Hills who plans, directs and supervises team members in the day-to-day operations of the store's grocery departments. The leader acts as mentor and coach, drives customer service and sales, keeps the store looking good during peak hours and is accountable for the department's P&L, sales and shrink.

Key responsibilities

• Provide courteous, friendly and efficient service to customers and team members, and spend most of the time in the store.
• Handle staffing, selection and hiring to meet staffing needs, and promote succession planning with career paths and promotion accountability.
• Document and apply disciplinary actions and recommend discharge where needed.
• Manage the department's P&L, sales and shrink, and model fast, friendly customer service.
• Mentor and coach team members so they exceed customer service and sales goals and maintain Meijer standards.
• Ensure the team is fully trained and has completed all required training.
• Promote a safe work environment and communicate the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2-3 years of related retail experience and one year of management experience.
• Helpful: rotational experience in meat, bakery, produce and deli, and customer service and product flow experience.
• Reliable and consistent attendance required.

Required skills

• Clear communication and conflict resolution, with attention to root causes.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and analyse financial and statistical information.
• Ability to teach suggestive selling and to mentor team members, including hourly workers and team leaders.
• Successful completion of all required certifications.
