Graphics Software Engineer – Real‑time XR & AI for Healthcare

About the role

The University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing is building next‑generation immersive tools for healthcare. We seek a highly motivated Graphics Software Engineer to design, develop, and optimize real‑time XR and AI‑driven visualization systems that support surgical planning, training, and diagnostics.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, code, profile, and ship high‑performance XR + AI visualization pipelines, targeting 90+ FPS on XR hardware.
• Implement neural rendering techniques (Gaussian splatting, NeRF variants), AI‑enhanced volume rendering, and generative modeling.
• Design and scale GPU‑accelerated compute infrastructure for real‑time visual computing on a supercomputer.
• Collaborate with computer scientists, clinicians, and senior engineers to integrate multimodal data and deploy cross‑platform applications.
• Mentor undergraduate and junior team members, conduct code reviews, and lead hands‑on instructional sessions.

Required profile

• Experience with low‑latency optimization and high‑performance computing.
• Ability to work fully onsite in a fast‑moving interdisciplinary research environment.
