Graphic Artist – Citywide Exam

About the role

Under the direction of the Digital Media & Website Communications Manager, the Graphic Artist will create engaging designs that support the agency’s mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives. The role requires a creative, detail‑oriented designer who can bring fresh perspectives while adhering to brand standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design layouts for reports, brochures, flyers, bookmarks, booklists, logos, newsletters, posters, forms, signs, and other printed materials.
• Select appropriate typography, color treatment, and paper stock using desktop publishing software.
• Perform specialized design, typesetting, and pre‑press work for publications, multimedia, and public information releases.
• Create and edit drawings and illustrations using computer‑aided graphics.
• Scan, manipulate, and retouch photographic images for integration into designs.
• Produce graphs, charts, and maps using appropriate software and hardware.
• Coordinate with departmental staff, vendors, printers, and color houses to ensure quality reproduction.
• Prepare sketches, diagrams, posters, exhibits, and photographs from consultations or rough drafts.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Creative and detail‑oriented with a strong understanding of brand standards.
• Adaptable, collaborative, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with staff, vendors, and external partners.

Required skills

• Proficiency with desktop publishing software.
• Experience using graphic design software for illustration, web design, and photographic retouching.
• Ability to work with computer‑aided graphics and related hardware.
