Geographical Information Systems Intern

About the role

The United Nations Operations and Crisis Centre (UNOCC) is seeking motivated interns to join its Data Unit. As a Geographical Information Systems Intern you will support the production of GIS maps that inform senior UN leadership on risk outlooks, crisis developments, and strategic planning.

Key responsibilities

• Create and maintain GIS maps for operational support, advocacy, awareness‑raising and strategic planning.
• Assist in data integration, spatial analysis and visualisation for UN decision‑making forums.
• Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams across the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and the Department of Peace Operations.
• Support the preparation of analytical products that contribute to global situational awareness.

Required profile

• Team‑player with strong collaboration, reliability and communication skills.
• Fluent in written and spoken English; knowledge of French or another UN language is an advantage.
• Enrolled in or recently completed coursework related to GIS, remote sensing, cartography, visualization, spatial analysis, modeling, geospatial programming or data management.
