About the role

Meijer is seeking an experienced General Merchandise Department Manager for its Normal, IL store. You will lead a team of Leads and Team Leaders, ensuring high engagement, coaching, and performance across the department. The role combines people development with responsibility for operational and financial results.

Key responsibilities

• Drive team member onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management.
• Identify talent, conduct career discussions, and build a diversified pipeline for both front‑line and leadership roles.
• Oversee area operations, including shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling, and staffing forecasts.
• Resolve team member and customer conflicts while maintaining Meijer standards.
• Implement process improvements and act as a steward of Meijer culture.
• Ensure compliance with safety, condition management, and all store procedures.

Required profile

• Strong leadership and people‑development experience in a retail environment.
• Ability to manage financial metrics such as P&L, budget, and productivity targets.
• Excellent communication skills for candid discussions and conflict resolution.
