Fullstack Engineer

About the role

Layer is building a modern accounting platform that integrates directly into the everyday software tools used by small‑business owners. As a Fullstack Engineer you will help shape the product, the team, and the company while delivering high‑quality features from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Kotlin and Ktor.
• Build responsive front‑end components with React.
• Implement and optimise data storage with PostgreSQL and the Exposed ORM.
• Write automated tests with Kotest and JUnit to ensure reliability.
• Collaborate on CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and deploy containerised services on ECS behind API Gateway.
• Monitor application health with Betterstack and Sentry, and iterate based on feedback.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience on strong software teams building new products.
• Demonstrated curiosity about both technical challenges and business problems.
• Ability to balance competing priorities and make ownership‑driven decisions.
• Enjoys mentoring teammates and fostering a collaborative culture.
