Full-Time Phlebotomist - Anderson Cancer Center Lab

About the role

Jupiter Medical Center, ranked #1 for safety, quality and patient satisfaction, is hiring a full-time Phlebotomist for its Anderson Cancer Center Lab. The phlebotomist collects specimens accurately and efficiently according to laboratory policy and procedure manuals, works in a busy, noisy environment with frequent interruptions, and may travel to offsite locations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform specimen collections and testing as defined by laboratory policy and procedure manuals
• Enter computer data and monitor workflow
• Assess the environment to ensure patient safety and choose appropriate equipment
• Maintain chain of custody for forensic collections
• Maintain HRP and pending log lists
• Organize workflow to improve efficiency
• Answer phones, fax reports, maintain phlebotomy inventory and keep the area clean
• Drive to offsite locations for specimen collection when needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association for healthcare providers
• Recognized national certification such as ASPT or ASCP preferred
• Ability to work independently, communicate clearly and work well in a team
• Physical ability to stand 65% of the shift, sit up to 4 hours a day, walk up to 50 yards and lift/carry 1-10 lbs
• OSHA Category I exposure to blood and body fluids; protective equipment required

Required skills

• Precise hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity
• Ability to use more than one computer system to track and receive orders
• Knowledge of specimen requirements for over 2,000 tests, draw timing and correct collection sites
• Annual Joint Commission mandatory education, in-service and health requirements, TB/PPD surveillance, and maintenance of professional licensing or certification
