Full-Time Patient Safety Observer

About the role

The University of Miami Health System is seeking a Patient Safety Observer to supervise patients who are at risk of injury or elopement. The role works closely with the interdisciplinary team and promptly reports any unsafe behavior to nursing staff.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare patient rooms for admission, setting up necessary items.
• Orient patients to their room, bed, storage, bathroom, TV controls, and emergency call light.
• Assist patients with dressing, undressing, and placement of personal belongings.
• Help with bathing, oral hygiene, linen changes, and evening care.
• Prepare patients for meals, coordinate trays with the primary nurse, and assist with feeding.
• Support positioning, lifting, turning, and ambulation of patients.
• Provide toileting assistance.
• Immediately report any changes in patient condition or behavior.
• Assist with discharge by packing belongings and transporting patients to the lobby.
• Follow isolation techniques and infection‑control protocols.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum one year of relevant experience.
• Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Availability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
