Full-time Animal Care Technician

About the role

The University of Miami’s Division of Veterinary Resources is seeking a full‑time Animal Care Technician to provide daily husbandry and support for research animals on the Medical Campus.

Key responsibilities

• Observe, feed, water and exercise a variety of species, including non‑human primates.
• Sanitize cages, equipment and animal‑change stations; operate autoclaves for sterilisation.
• Monitor room conditions (light cycles, temperature, humidity) and ventilated‑cage filter status.
• Receive animals and supplies, prepare diets, and maintain accurate animal records.
• Assist veterinary and research staff with sample collection, medication administration and treatment of sick animals.
• Perform preventive maintenance on ventilated racks and report facility issues.
• Participate in the department’s Emergency Response Team as essential personnel.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant animal‑care experience preferred.
• Ability to work safely with research animals and follow SOPs.
• Attention to detail for health monitoring and record‑keeping.
• Willingness to work on‑site in a laboratory animal environment.
