Full Stack AI Engineer

About the role

Carda Health is looking for its first AI hire: a Full Stack AI Engineer who builds AI-powered products that improve patient lives. The role spans the AI product stack, from research and model evaluation to backend integration and product UX, and involves working directly with the CTO and CPO to design, deploy and scale AI-driven features. It is a full-time position.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with clinicians, product managers and other engineers to identify high-impact AI use cases and bring them to life.
• Rapidly prototype ideas using off-the-shelf tools such as OpenAI, Hugging Face, LangChain and Pinecone.
• Develop, optimize and maintain AI agent workflows, ensuring quality, scalability and adherence to user safety standards.
• Integrate AI workflows with backend API services and infrastructure, with clear observability.
• Design and manage prompt engineering, evaluation and optimization workflows.
• Build out the internal AI stack and shape best practices, technically and ethically, as the company scales.

Required profile

• History of technical ownership for significant engineering projects.
• 2+ years of hands-on AI-focused engineering experience, covering prompt engineering, RAG, agents and model evaluation.
• 5+ years of full-stack or backend-focused software engineering experience.
• Experience shipping software end-to-end in fast-paced environments.
• Fluency with APIs such as OpenAI, Gemini and Claude, along with open-source foundation models.
• Familiarity with the intersection of audio processing and conversational AI.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Deep understanding of how LLMs and foundation models work.
• Bonus: voice AI agents with WebRTC/Websockets (LiveKit, Pipecat, Daily); data mining, statistical analysis and predictive modeling; AWS or Google Cloud; HIPAA-compliant healthcare data (FHIR, HL7).
