Frontend Engineer - Design Systems

About the role

Mercury's Design Systems team helps product teams build interfaces that are consistent, accessible and well thought out. It is hiring a Frontend Engineer to evolve the shared components and patterns behind them, working closely with designers and engineers. The role suits early-career and intermediate engineers and focuses initially on design systems, with room to contribute to code-based prototyping and tools for designers and AI agents.

Key responsibilities

• Build shared components and patterns in React and TypeScript that teams can reuse across products
• Partner with designers and product engineers to turn design intent into working software
• Evolve components and tokens across Figma and code, improving the system with real product feedback
• Improve the quality of experiences built with the components, with attention to accessibility, interactions and reliability
• Help teams adopt shared patterns by improving examples, documentation and workflows
• Use AI tools to explore approaches and evaluate generated code, then share useful approaches with the team

Required profile

• Experience may come from professional work, internships, coursework, open source or personal projects
• Hands-on fluency with AI coding tools, able to give context, evaluate and improve generated code
• Ownership, willingness to learn and curiosity about reusable systems
• Interest in accessible interfaces and collaboration with designers and engineers
• Experience with design systems, prototyping or developer tooling is a plus

What we offer

• Base salary: US employees $140,800-$158,400 USD, Canadian employees $115,700-$149,700 CAD
