Founding Recruiter

About the role

We are looking for a Founding Recruiter who will lead all things recruiting, shaping the team we need and building it from the ground up. You will work directly with the CEO and HR Manager to attract top talent across Operations, Styling, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Client Experience, and more. This is a unique chance to leave a lasting imprint on a fast‑growing ecommerce startup.

Key responsibilities

• Full‑cycle recruiting: own end‑to‑end hiring for a variety of roles.
• Talent strategy: partner with founders and hiring managers to set hiring goals, define new roles, and develop talent roadmaps.
• Sourcing: design and execute outbound sourcing strategies to reach top talent.
• Manage talent infrastructure: maintain tools such as Ashby, LinkedIn Recruiter, and hiring data.
• Growth strategy: advise founders on team composition and scaling plans.
• Talent operations: coordinate candidates, manage recruiting tools, and continuously improve hiring processes.
• Brand building: convey Short Story’s brand and values with authenticity in every candidate interaction.

Required profile

• Ability to operate as a one‑person recruiting team, rolling up sleeves to source, coordinate, and close.
• Close collaboration with the CEO and HR Manager while independently determining and executing recruiting needs.
• Founder‑mindset: high judgment, bias for action, and ownership mentality.
• Proven ability to craft outbound messages that generate responses and to discover talent in non‑obvious places.
• Expertise with recruiting tools such as Ashby, LinkedIn Recruiter, and AI automation.
• 7+ years of recruiting experience, including at least 3 years in a startup or high‑growth environment.
