Forward Deployed Process Consultant (Medical Coding)

About the role

R1 RCM, a provider of technology-driven solutions for hospitals, health systems and medical groups, is hiring a Forward Deployed Process Consultant. The role bridges executive strategy with operational execution and requires strong knowledge of healthcare metrics, process optimization and best-practice workflows. It involves significant travel to client sites in Gainesville, Florida, San Diego, California or Marietta, Georgia.

Key responsibilities

• Translate business requirements into technical architecture and implementation plans through current-state assessments, including SOPs and process mapping.
• Partner with Process Engineers and consulting teams to deliver end-to-end solutions, including product vision documents, roadmaps and future-state process flows.
• Provide technical and operational guidance, design implementation and stakeholder communication plans, and end-user training and change management plans.
• Set up mechanisms to monitor KPIs and SLAs, and align medical coding processes with strategic objectives.
• Analyze and optimize medical coding workflows using AI to improve efficiency.
• Act as liaison between executive leadership and operational teams.

Required profile

• Experience in healthcare client-facing consulting.
• Significant experience in project management, process improvement and implementation support.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence key stakeholders.
• Healthcare certifications in coding audits are a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency in data analysis, cross-functional collaboration and problem solving.
• Preferred: strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT/HCPCS coding guidelines and reimbursement methodologies.
• Preferred: AAPC or AHIMA certified coding professional (CIC, CPC, CCS, RHIA, RHIT).

What we offer

• Base pay range of $113,520 to $226,555.68 per year, depending on role, level, location, experience and education.
• Eligibility for an annual bonus plan at a target of 10%.
