Food Service Worker - Part-Time Weekend Evening Shift

About the role

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is hiring two identical part-time Food Service Workers for the Montevideo Veterans Home, within its Food & Nutrition Services unit. The work is an evening shift every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday), 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with at least 8 hours per 2-week pay period and possibly more depending on business needs. Positions are classified, non-exempt, and not initially eligible for health care benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare food and cook short orders
• Serve meals to residents
• Dishwash and clean the food service areas
• Follow established food service policies and procedures

Required profile

• Knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing food, care and use of cooking utensils and equipment, and food values and nutrition
• Able to perform simple cooking on a large scale and plan and prepare small meals on a household scale
• Able to perform cleaning and food service tasks and read diet cards and follow instructions
• Preferred: food service experience (prepping, plating, serving), knowledge of basic sanitation standards, ServSafe Food certificate, and knowledge of the IDDSI

• Pay of $20.87-$25.88 per hour, plus a $2.25 per hour shift differential for hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
