Food Service Worker – Dekalb RYDC (Decatur, GA)

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking a Food Service Worker for the Dekalb Regional Youth Detention Center in Decatur. Under direct supervision you will learn to prepare, heat, finish cooking, and serve food to customers while handling cash transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Clean work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverware.
• Clean, peel, slice, and trim food items using manual and electric appliances.
• Assist with food supply requisitions, sanitation, and maintenance inspections.
• Receive payments for food items and handle cash transactions.
• Replenish supplies at steam tables and service bars.
• Store food in designated containers to prevent spoilage.
• Unpack and store raw and prepared food products.

Required profile

• Equivalent combination of education, training, or experience to perform entry‑level food service duties.
• Ability to work under supervision, learn food preparation techniques, and provide customer service.
• Basic math skills for cash handling.
