Floral Department Manager

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Floral Department Manager in Bettendorf. The floral department offers customers flowers for every occasion, and the manager sets the standard for product quality, customer service and department performance while leading the team and handling pricing, promotions, FTD and Teleflora orders. The position is hourly.

Key responsibilities

• Set standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, appearance and department profitability
• Greet customers, assist them and resolve concerns promptly
• Process FTD, interstore, Teleflora and internet orders and keep order details confidential
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate department employees
• Set department goals with the Store Director or Manager of Perishables, plan weekly schedules and daily work plans
• Inspect displays and merchandise, order product and ensure competitive pricing
• Analyze sales and trends, prepare ad projections and write ads, and plan displays and promotions
• Manage department bookkeeping, including invoicing and financial procedures
• Control inventory, maintain proper temperatures and storage, and troubleshoot equipment
• Unload trucks, check in merchandise and place it in storage
• Approve employee discipline, recommend transfers, discharges and wage increases, and attend assigned meetings and training
• Answer phones, follow the dress code and hygiene standards, and pitch in with special projects

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Over three years of related work experience preferred
• Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 100 pounds or more and stand and walk on hard surfaces for long periods
• Ability to work in coolers or freezers and, where applicable, use sharp knives, pallet jacks, forklifts or a cardboard baler
