Floorhand – Manual Labor on Drilling Rig

About the role

The Floorhand provides the manual labour required to keep a drilling rig operating safely and efficiently. Working directly on the rig floor, the role involves handling heavy equipment, assembling and disassembling pipe, and assisting the Driller with routine maintenance tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Operate tongs and drilling slips to assemble and disassemble drilling pipe and collars.
• Control hoists to raise and lower equipment and personnel.
• Use hand tools, sledge hammers and large pipe wrenches for equipment maintenance and repair.
• Perform chipping, painting, and physical movement of rig components.
• Mix chemicals, grease, oil and wash equipment, walls and floors.
• Carry out cleaning and general upkeep of the rig under the Driller’s supervision.

Required profile

• Ability to work safely on a drilling rig floor.
• Willingness to follow close supervision of the Driller.
• Physical fitness for handling heavy tools and equipment.

Required skills

• Operation of tongs and drilling slips.
• Use of hoists for lifting and lowering loads.
• Proficiency with hand tools, sledge hammers and large pipe wrenches.
• Basic knowledge of chipping, painting, and equipment cleaning.
• Experience mixing chemicals and applying grease/oil to machinery.
