Firefighter - McMurdo Station

About the role

Amentum is recruiting a firefighter for McMurdo Station in Antarctica. The firefighter trains for and responds to emergencies, controls and extinguishes aircraft, structure and other fires, and drives and operates fire-fighting vehicles and equipment. The role is physically demanding and involves severe cold, wind and limited visibility.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements, providing documentation as needed
• Provide fire, EMS, crash fire (ARFF) and hazardous materials emergency response
• Implement the USAP Fire Prevention Plan and the Disaster Preparedness Plan for the Antarctic site, keeping emergency equipment operational and ready
• Operate fire prevention programs for contract locations in Antarctica and respond to disasters and hazardous material spills
• Interact professionally with National Science Foundation, military and other agency officials, handle confidential matters per management policy, and support Operations Division metrics
• Take part in ongoing training on EH&S standards, OSHA requirements, fire, EMS and hazmat, and perform additional duties assigned by Lieutenants for Captains

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, plus IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD or State Certified Firefighter II certification
• State Certified Airport Fire Fighter or Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations Level certification
• CPR certification and NIMS ICS 100 and 200
• Two years of full-time firefighting experience, volunteer experience or paid on-call time
• Ability to lift, climb, crawl and drag hose, and work in extreme cold; willingness to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
• Medical, dental, drug screening, background check and federal background check clearance; US citizenship required for facility credentials
• Valid US driver's license

Required skills

• Preferred: Associate of Science in Fire Science
• Preferred: EMT-B or higher, and certified Driver Operator for pumper/mobile water supply or ARFF
