Fire Systems Technician - Water Based (Contract)

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Fire Systems Technician - Water Based on a seasonal contract to support the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program under the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). The work site is in Antarctica (McMurdo, South Pole or Palmer), and the technician performs maintenance and installation under the supervision of the Fire Systems Technician - Special Hazards/Supervisor. Tasking follows the ASC schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and perform scheduled preventative maintenance on dry, preaction and wet water-based fire suppression systems
• Perform winterization and de-winterization of water-based systems and periodic maintenance in line with the Preventative Maintenance Program, NFPA standards and manufacturer guidelines
• Work with NICET-certified technicians and Facilities Management to develop work plans, identify materials and coordinate testing, maintenance and repair
• Prepare work plans, job hazard analyses, job safety analyses, checklists and other required documentation, and respond to emergency service calls on time
• Maintain accurate records of hours, tasking, materials and processes, and advise the supervisor on progress and needs
• Carry out tasking outdoors in extreme cold and windy conditions, following SOPs and safety requirements

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• Current NICET II Water Based certification (minimum)
• At least four years of documented experience installing, testing, inspecting, repairing and maintaining fire protection systems, including wet, dry and hybrid water-based systems
• Experience with written work plans, job hazard and safety analyses under a permit-to-work system, and with commercial, government, industrial or institutional facilities
• Ability to read design drawings, specifications, diagrams, maintenance manuals and troubleshooting guides
• Willingness to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening, background checks and US citizenship for facility credentials
• Valid US driver's license and ability to lift and work in extreme cold

Required skills

• NICET II Water Based certification
• Intermediate computer skills with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• LOTO procedures and confined space safety protocols
• Risk assessment, PPE selection and fall protection knowledge
• Preferred: experience with Maximo or another computerized maintenance management system
