About the role
The City of Dayton is seeking a qualified Fire Captain to lead fire personnel and ensure efficient deployment of resources. This internal promotional position reports directly to senior fire department leadership and supports the mission of protecting the community.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as a company officer, overseeing fire personnel and daily operations.
- Deploy personnel and apparatus in an efficient and effective manner to meet mission objectives.
- Coordinate tactical actions during emergencies, including high‑rise incidents and ventilation strategies.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum two consecutive years of service as a Fire Lieutenant on the examination date.
- Current valid driver’s license.
- Approval as a Ladder Driver/Operator by the Dayton Fire Department prior to the exam posting date.
Required skills
- Current State and Department‑mandated Emergency Medical Technician certification.
- Firefighter II certification.
- Fire Safety Inspector certification.
- Ability to operate ladder trucks safely and effectively.
