Fire Alarm & Security Technician

About the role

The Fire Alarm & Security Technician installs, troubleshoots, services and repairs fire alarm and security systems, as well as other fire‑life safety products. The role requires minimal supervision and involves direct interaction with internal and external customers, monitoring companies and on‑site teams.

Key responsibilities

• Install, test and commission fire alarm and clean‑agent/high‑pressure suppression systems.
• Diagnose and repair faults, including ground faults, on fire alarm panels, power supplies and initiating devices.
• Use required tools such as multimeters, meggers, laptops for programming, lifts and Field Service Lightning to track work orders.
• Handle, remove and replace explosive actuators (squibs, gas cartridges) safely.
• Maintain accurate documentation on work orders and follow the company’s safety programs.
• Provide on‑call emergency service and train junior technicians.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; NICET Level 1 Fire Alarm certification preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience in the fire‑life safety industry, specifically with fire alarm systems.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.

Required skills

• Fire alarm system installation, troubleshooting and repair.
• Use of multimeter, megger and laptop programming tools.
• Knowledge of fire alarm codes, standards and suppression system types.
• Experience with Field Service Lightning for work‑order management.
• Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as Sage 300 CRE.
• Understanding of hazardous material handling and safety documentation.
