Financial Controller – Senior Accounting Leader

About the role

A leading retail organization is looking for a Financial Controller to act as the senior finance leader for its California airport retail and distribution operations. The role oversees accounting, financial reporting, operational finance processes, internal controls, and team leadership across multiple legal entities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes for several California operating entities.
• Review, reconcile and validate financial statements, general ledger activity, accruals, amortization, fixed assets, lease accounting and intercompany balances.
• Validate IFRS lease accounting calculations and support dual IFRS/US GAAP reporting where required.
• Oversee accounting for operational expenses, cross‑charges and intercompany allocations.
• Coordinate with Operations, Supply Chain, Warehouse, HR, Compliance, Loss Prevention and HQ Finance to provide financial analysis and reporting validation.
• Maintain strong internal controls, support external audits, tax filings and regulatory reporting.
• Drive ERP and reporting system improvements, including SAP Business One implementation and integration.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field (CPA preferred).
• 7‑12+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably in multi‑entity, retail or distribution environments.
• Proven experience leading finance teams and managing complex financial reporting requirements.
