Financial Controller

About the role

Jacob & Co. is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead accounting and bookkeeping processes, ensure accurate financial records, and mentor the accounting team. This full‑time, exempt position is based in Midtown Manhattan and reports to the VP of Finance.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and oversee a team of four junior and senior accountants.
• Manage accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls across the organization.
• Provide guidance to operating teams to ensure compliance with accounting rules.
• Maintain sales tax collection and filing procedures.
• Lead the monthly close process and prepare balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Coordinate annual financial statements under IFRS for subsidiaries.
• Serve as primary contact for external auditors and manage audit engagements.
• Oversee government reporting requirements and special projects, including due‑diligence for acquisitions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• CPA certification preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of professional accounting experience.
• At least 3 years of supervisory experience.
• Experience with QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics AX365 or Business Central.
• Background in public accounting or luxury retail/wholesale is a plus.
