Financial Controller / Accounting Director

About the role

The Financial Controller / Accounting Director will serve as the senior finance leader for California airport retail and distribution operations. This hands‑on "player‑coach" role balances strategic oversight with day‑to‑day accounting execution, reporting to both the VP of Airport Operations and the CFO while leading a local finance and accounting team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes across multiple California entities, reviewing and reconciling financial statements, general ledger activity, accruals, amortization, fixed assets, lease accounting and intercompany balances.
• Validate IFRS lease accounting calculations and support dual IFRS/US GAAP reporting where required.
• Coordinate with Operations, Supply Chain, Warehouse, HR, Compliance, Loss Prevention and HQ Finance to provide financial analysis, reporting validation and process oversight.
• Maintain ownership of accounting processes within ERP systems and drive implementation, integration and continuous improvement of financial and operational systems.
• Ensure strong internal controls, support external audits, tax filings and regulatory reporting, and reconcile bank and intercompany accounts timely.
• Lead, mentor and organize a small high‑impact accounting and finance team, establishing clear processes, accountability and succession planning.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in retail, luxury retail, travel or airport retail, distribution or multi‑entity operational environments.
• Proven track record leading accounting operations across multiple legal entities.
• Strong operational accounting and financial reporting background.
• Experience managing small, highly functional finance teams.
• Comfortable working in fast‑paced, evolving environments.
• Deep understanding of ERP systems and financial process ownership.
