Field Service Engineer – Hardware (Raleigh, NC)

About the role

Varian Medical Systems is seeking a motivated Field Service Engineer to join our hardware service team in Raleigh, NC. You will be responsible for preventive maintenance and support of linear accelerators and imaging systems used in cancer treatment, ensuring reliable operation for our customers.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on Varian linear accelerators and associated medical equipment, often outside normal business hours.
• Follow documented procedures to verify system performance using handheld test equipment.
• Escalate complex incidents to senior technicians or leadership when necessary.
• Complete and submit field service work orders, expense reports, and parts consignment documentation in a timely manner.
• Maintain accurate records of service activities and communicate follow‑up actions to the assigned representative.

Required profile

• Strong time‑management abilities and professional communication skills for internal and customer interactions.
• Ability to build and maintain customer relationships through clear written and verbal communication.
• Familiarity with technical documentation, standards, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Basic knowledge of electronic, electro‑mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and plumbing systems.

Required skills

• Use of handheld test equipment such as Digital Multimeter (DVM/DMM) and Digital Oscilloscope.
• Basic experience with micro‑computer/PC‑based systems.
• Proficiency with simple hand tools.
