Fast & Fresh Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Fast & Fresh Clerk for its Mason City store. The role provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service in the Fast & Fresh department, operates the cash register accurately and keeps the store clean and stocked. It is non-exempt and reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Store Operations, Perishables and Health Wellness Home, and the Fast & Fresh Department Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly, learn their names and help them find products, load or unload heavy items and pass on their suggestions.
• Answer the telephone promptly and work as a team to keep the shopping experience pleasant.
• Scan products, redeem coupons and food stamps, process cash, checks and credit cards, figure discounts, count back change and issue receipts.
• Bag merchandise, assist with inventory, receive deliveries, fill displays and stock shelves.
• Maintain the lot, shovel snow, spread ice melt, hose down the lot, refill towel holders and window washer fluid, and remove trash.
• Check in product, put it away, review invoices, price items for customers and order merchandise and supplies as needed.
• Follow sanitation procedures, keep the work area clean, follow hygiene and dress guidelines, and report to work on time.

Required profile

• No education or experience requirements.
• Ability to solve practical problems, do arithmetic with fractions, decimals and percentages, and file, post and mail materials.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, with vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction.
• Working conditions include temperature extremes, dampness, possible equipment movement hazards, electrical shock and exposure to cleaning chemicals; the work is fast paced.
