Facilities Coordinator I

About the role

The Facilities Coordinator I provides routine preventative and reactive maintenance for protected environment facilities such as greenhouses, shade structures, hoophouses, and growth chambers at Texas A&M AgriLife Research in Dallas. The role involves learning basic greenhouse control functions, assisting with monitoring, and supporting campus facilities operations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive and reactive maintenance on greenhouses and related equipment.
• Clean and sanitize evaporative cooling pads and system components.
• Troubleshoot and repair fans, pumps, belts, and other mechanical parts.
• Grease and lubricate greenhouse equipment, install/remove shade cloths, and install new equipment.
• Operate vehicles and farm machinery as needed.
• Learn and execute basic greenhouse controller functions and make simple programming changes.
• Maintain records using spreadsheets or word processors.
• Monitor pests and diseases, recommend pesticide applications, and maintain a pesticide applicator license.
• Maintain chemical inventory, safety data sheets (SDS), and related documentation.

Required profile

• Willingness to learn basic greenhouse controls and operations.
• Ability to perform mechanical maintenance and repairs.
• Valid pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain one.
• Attention to detail for cleaning, sanitizing, and record‑keeping.

Required skills

• Spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel) for record keeping.
• Word processing software for documentation.
• Basic knowledge of greenhouse control systems.
• Mechanical maintenance skills for fans, pumps, and belts.
