Export Control Subject Matter Expert - East Asia Pacific

About the role

Amentum, which supports the U.S. Department of Justice's ICITAP and OPDAT programs, is seeking an Export Control Subject Matter Expert to advise the East Asia Pacific region. The position is remote, lasts about two years with roughly five to ten foreign assistance events per year, and is an independent contractor role.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in project kickoff meetings with government stakeholders and review existing program documentation and policies.
• Develop a project management plan with schedule and milestones, and prepare strategy documents such as assessments and stakeholder maps.
• Work with interagency officials on nonproliferation strategies focused on export controls, cargo security and customs practices.
• Plan and run 3-5 events per year (workshops, seminars, webinars, conferences, technical consultations), including international travel and logistics.
• Maintain records of project documents and event materials, support knowledge sharing and version control, and write status and after-action reports.
• Conduct impact assessments and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in international relations, public policy, security studies or a related field (master's preferred).
• At least 7 years of experience in nonproliferation, export controls, customs, border security or related national security fields.
• Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects and working with U.S. government agencies, international organizations or foreign counterparts.
• Ability to deliver training, workshops or technical assistance programs and to travel internationally, including to the East Asia Pacific.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of U.S. nonproliferation policy and export control, cargo security and customs enforcement frameworks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to produce reports and briefings for senior audiences.
• Desired: regional expertise, experience designing capacity-building programs, foreign language proficiency, and experience in cross-cultural environments.
