Explosives Safety Site Planner (Part‑time, Remote)

About the role

APT Research is seeking a part‑time Explosives Safety Site Planner to provide technical support for explosives safety site planning at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. The role can be performed remotely and involves ensuring compliance with DoD(W) and Air Force explosives safety criteria.

Key responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive technical reviews of new and amended explosives safety site plans (ESSP).
• Develop Quantity‑Distance (QD) and New Explosives Weight (NEW) calculations using mandated government software (ESS).
• Create risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies when standard QD criteria cannot be met.
• Prepare and manage documentation for routing and final approval of ESSP packages through military and higher‑headquarters channels.
• Advise government and tenant organizations on DoD(W) and Air Force explosives safety criteria.
• Maintain expert‑level proficiency with the DoD(W) ESS software suite and propose solutions for complex ESSP challenges.

Required profile

• Minimum ten years of experience in DoD(W) explosives safety.
• Prior experience as an Explosives Safety Manager or primary Explosives Safety Site Planner.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent ESSP projects.
• Strong written communication and report‑writing skills.
• Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one.
