Executive Director, University Architect

About the role

The University of Miami seeks an Executive Director, University Architect to provide design leadership for the Coral Gables, Rosenstiel and Richmond campuses. This senior position shapes the built environment in alignment with the university’s mission and strategic plan.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee Architecture, Interior Design, Campus Planning, and Space Planning departments.
• Develop and maintain building, interior, signage, space, paint, grounds, and wayfinding standards.
• Guide the campus master plan and major renovation or expansion projects.
• Establish departmental design procedures and work‑process standards.
• Review and approve design submissions to the City of Coral Gables Board of Architects.
• Ensure campus facilities meet sustainability goals and best practices.
• Act as the university’s design liaison with municipal design review boards.
• Support strategic planning for facilities operations and protect university assets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Architecture, Planning, or a related field.
• Relevant professional certification or licensing.
• Extensive experience leading multidisciplinary design teams in a higher‑education environment.
• Proven ability to develop and enforce design standards and master‑plan initiatives.
