Executive Director, Laboratory Operations

About the role

The Executive Director, Laboratory Operations leads the scientific and managerial functions of the University of Miami’s integrated laboratory services, overseeing Blood Bank, Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology divisions. This senior role ensures cost‑effective, high‑quality laboratory performance aligned with institutional goals.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, direct, supervise and develop technical and clerical staff across multiple laboratory units.
• Prepare and manage the annual laboratory budget and approve requisitions for equipment and supplies.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal licensure, accreditation, and regulatory inspections.
• Develop long‑range technology plans, drive automation, AI and advanced analytics initiatives.
• Represent laboratory operations in executive, hospital and interdisciplinary forums.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in laboratory management.
• Proven ability to align departmental goals with enterprise strategy and lead transformational change.
