Essential Needs Resource Specialist – Student Services

About the role

The Essential Needs Resource Specialist provides comprehensive case management and support services to students facing food insecurity, housing instability, financial hardship, transportation barriers, health concerns, and personal crises. Working under the Dean of Students and guided by the Clinical Case Manager, the specialist helps students overcome obstacles that affect their academic success and well‑being.

Key responsibilities

• Assess student needs and develop individualized action plans.
• Connect students with campus and community resources such as Financial Aid, Student Health, Housing, and the Student Cupboard.
• Coordinate care, advocate on behalf of students, and follow up to ensure resolution of barriers.
• Maintain accurate case records and documentation.
• Participate in retention and student success committees.
• Promote an inclusive, equitable environment for all students.

Required profile

• Ability to handle complex assignments with independence and sound judgment.
• Strong analytical skills to resolve student service issues.
• Experience assessing student needs and identifying appropriate interventions.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for building relationships with diverse populations.
• Effective written and verbal communication abilities.

What we offer

• Anticipated salary $5,083 – $5,250 per month (full‑time, 40 hrs/week).
• Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, CalPERS retirement, sick/vacation leave, and 15 paid holidays.
• Temporary assignment ending on or before 31 August 2027, with possible extension based on funding and performance.
