E&S Underwriting Clearance Manager

About the role

Zurich E&S is seeking an Underwriting Clearance Manager to lead the central clearance team in the Chicago area (with preference for Schaumburg, Chicago, or Atlanta). The role oversees people, process, and financial management for the team that clears and registers submissions from wholesale brokers.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, train, develop, and motivate a team of clearance specialists to support underwriting activities.
• Drive superior customer service and maintain effective relationships with underwriters, internal partners, and external brokers.
• Set clear goals, provide performance coaching, conduct reviews, and manage workload capacity.
• Maintain standardized procedures, training materials, and support continuous process improvement.
• Monitor productivity metrics, track performance, and implement system enhancements.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal control requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of insurance operations/underwriting experience, or equivalent education and experience.
• Knowledge of the insurance industry and regulatory environment.
• People‑management experience, including supervising remote full‑time and part‑time staff.
• Strong analytical abilities and effective communication skills.
