About the role

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Bureau of Water is hiring an Environmental Protection Engineer I for its Champaign Regional Office. This entry‑level position provides hands‑on training and supervision while supporting field operations related to water infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers and specialists in investigating design, location, construction, maintenance, and inspection of public and private water facilities.
• Support the Field Operation Section by gathering data, preparing reports, and contributing to project documentation.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or early‑career professional with a degree in environmental, civil, or related engineering.
• Willingness to work under close supervision and learn the agency’s engineering programs and procedures.

Required skills

• Basic engineering knowledge applicable to water infrastructure.
• Ability to assist in design review, construction oversight, and inspection activities.
