Environmental Health & Safety Manager – Data Center Construction & Ops

About the role

Anthropic is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead safety across the full lifecycle of its data‑center sites, from construction and commissioning through live operations. The role focuses on ensuring that high‑hazard work performed by contractors and subcontractors meets Anthropic’s rigorous safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and manage contractor safety programs, including pre‑qualification, safety‑plan review, method‑statement assessment and site‑specific orientation.
• Issue high‑hazard work permits and conduct audits and inspections to verify compliance with approved plans.
• Oversee EHS for construction, commissioning and operational phases, applying OSHA construction (29 CFR 1926) and general industry (29 CFR 1910) requirements.
• Manage safety during energization, testing, lockout/tagout, NFPA 70E compliance and arc‑flash protection.
• Coordinate multi‑employer worksites, set clear safety expectations, and hold all parties accountable.
• Partner with the EHS Lead, construction, infrastructure, operations, security and legal teams, and may build a dedicated EHS team as the data‑center footprint expands.

Required profile

• Proven experience in field‑facing EHS program ownership for construction and operations, preferably in data‑center or high‑tech environments.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA construction (29 CFR 1926) and general industry (29 CFR 1910) regulations.
• Ability to manage contractor safety, conduct audits, and enforce high‑hazard work permitting.
• Excellent coordination skills across general contractors, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
