Entry Level Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Daedalus is looking for an entry‑level Mechanical Engineer to design and develop products across multiple industries, including medical, telecommunications, safety, and consumer goods. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA, with occasional travel and off‑site work.

Key responsibilities

• Create product requirement documents and analyze associated hazards.
• Select materials, design components and assemblies, and apply joining techniques such as snap‑fitting, welding, bonding, and mechanical fastening.
• Develop test plans, conduct measurements, and use statistical analysis to verify designs.
• Prepare design concepts for client presentations using sketches, renderings, models, and reports.
• Produce CAD layouts and detailed drawings with Pro/Engineer and/or SolidWorks.
• Build mechanical and electromechanical prototypes using internal and external resources.
• Perform stress, statics, cost, and tolerance analyses.
• Coordinate with contract manufacturers and OEM/COTS suppliers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME); Master’s degree is a plus.
• Hands‑on mechanical aptitude and shop skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
• Strong written and verbal English communication.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (mandatory) and Pro/Engineer or other CAD tools.
• Test plan development and statistical data analysis.
• Knowledge of plastic molding processes.
• Sheet‑metal fabrication and assembly techniques.
• Understanding of mechanical seals, couplings, lubrication and instrumentation systems.
• Stress, statics, and tolerance analysis.
