Entry-Level Accountant – University of Miami

About the role

The University of Miami’s Office of the Vice Provost for Research & Scholarship is seeking an entry‑level accountant to support the Division of Veterinary Resources. This on‑site position provides hands‑on experience with departmental accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
• Analyze trends, costs, revenues, and financial commitments to forecast future performance.
• Report departmental finances to management and suggest resource‑utilization improvements.
• Verify journal vouchers, reconcile expenditure and revenue accounts, and approve reimbursements, check requisitions, and purchase orders.
• Assist with fiscal year‑end processes, including accrual entries.
• Develop, audit, and monitor fiscal reports based on current and historical data.
• Participate in short‑ and long‑term business planning while adhering to university policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and budget control methods.
• Ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret financial records and reports.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work within budget constraints.
