About the role

NASA is seeking qualified engineers for direct‑hire positions at the Ames Research Center. The role involves contributing to a wide range of engineering and technical projects that support NASA programs, facilities, and experimental test assets.

Key responsibilities

• Advise, administer, or perform professional engineering work on facilities, structures, systems, processes, equipment, and materials.
• Conduct studies for NASA programs and partner projects.
• Plan, research, design, develop, and test custom instrumentation, test coupons, and software solutions.
• Perform cost analyses, program or project management, and configuration management.
• Support multidisciplinary teams operating facilities such as the Unitary Plan Wind Tunnel, Arc Jet Complex, Vertical Motion Simulator, and FutureFlight Central.
• Develop and maintain technical procedures, test plans, safety documentation, operational instructions, and software records.
• Coordinate with operators, technicians, engineers, and test customers in dynamic, hazardous‑energy environments.
• For supervisory positions, assign work, evaluate performance, recommend personnel actions, and identify training needs.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen, national, or person owing allegiance to the United States.
• Must meet the basic education requirements for the advertised GS‑11/12/13/14/15 series.
• Willingness to undergo background investigation, possible security clearance, and a one‑year probationary period.
