Engineering Manager, Trading Platform

About the role

Topstep is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the team that builds and operates TopstepX, its core trading platform. The role focuses on people leadership, ensuring the team delivers reliable, high‑performance real‑time systems that funded traders depend on daily.

Key responsibilities

• Set direction, hiring standards, and capacity planning while shaping day‑to‑day team operations.
• Conduct 1:1s, provide real‑time feedback, run performance reviews, and foster a culture of psychological safety and high standards.
• Own availability, performance, and resilience of the platform, overseeing on‑call health, incident response, observability, and tooling such as APM and health checks.
• Drive delivery cadence, influence the roadmap to include technical‑investment and reliability work.
• Collaborate with senior engineers, product, operations, and infrastructure partners, keeping leadership informed of progress, risks, and trade‑offs.

Required profile

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with production systems, integrations, and operations.
• 2+ years of engineering management experience, including hiring, coaching, and shaping team delivery.
• Proven record of delivering complex technical work while balancing feature delivery with reliability.
• Experience leading teams responsible for on‑call, incident response, and system reliability.
• Demonstrated ability to build inclusive, collaborative cultures grounded in psychological safety.
• Technical credibility to guide architecture decisions for backend, distributed, high‑availability, real‑time services.
