Engineer, Process Sciences - Upstream

About the role

Encoded Therapeutics is a clinical-stage genetic medicines company developing therapies for severe CNS disorders, using its proprietary vector engineering approach with AAV vectors. It is recruiting an Engineer, Process Sciences to work at the intersection of genomics and therapeutics, across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. The workplace is on site.

Key responsibilities

• Design, execute and analyze small-scale studies supporting the development of two at-scale products and the company's pipeline products.
• Serve as the engineer responsible for pre-clinical and clinical manufacturing of AAV projects and plasmids, covering upstream, downstream, fill finish and drug device.
• Facilitate technology transfer of manufacturing processes to internal and external sites, GMP and non-GMP.
• Provide person-in-plant support of GMP clinical and commercial manufacturing at internal and external sites as required.
• Work with cross-functional teams to develop tools and templates that support tech transfer business processes.

Required profile

• B.S. or M.S. in biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, biological sciences, virology, molecular biology or biochemistry.
• At least 3 years of industry experience or equivalent educational experience.
• At least 1 year of industry experience in an MSAT/PD/Process Sciences role preferred.
• Experience with gene therapy processes strongly preferred.

Required skills

• Extensive working knowledge of modern laboratory procedures and knowledge of cGMP is a must.
• Ability to independently design, execute and analyze small-scale cell culture studies (cell expansion, single-use bioreactors, harvest and clarification) is a must.
• Strong verbal and written skills, teamwork, planning, organization and multitasking abilities.
