Engineer I – Construction Estimating & Technical Support

About the role

Granite is seeking an Engineer I to support construction projects by providing technical engineering and cost information. The role ensures that all work complies with engineering standards, contracts, budgets, and schedules while helping to deliver high‑quality infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with job controls to ensure compliance with contract terms, budget, schedule, forecasting and job costing.
• Interpret design drawings for craft workers and verify that installations follow specifications.
• Research and resolve drawing interpretation issues, conflicts, interferences and errors.
• Prepare and distribute status reports, punch lists, sketches, material calculations and other documentation to supervisors.
• Provide technical support for material controls, delivery dates, construction schedules and design requirements to minimize additional costs.
• Create drawings and sketches for change orders, estimates and construction work.
• Develop quantity take‑offs, material price lists, labor cost rates and equipment data for accurate estimates and bids.
• Research historical productivity data to compile summary reports and establish guidelines for future estimates.
• Maintain organized files of working documents to support bid accuracy.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering, construction management, business administration or a related field, or equivalent technical training and experience.
• 0–2 years of experience in construction estimating support, engineering, field support or a similar role.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience using scheduling software.
• Knowledge of AGTEK Take‑off software.
• Working knowledge of construction equipment, techniques, drawings, specifications and building material standards.
