Engineer 6 DCL – Traffic Operations

About the role

The Engineer 6 DCL serves as a senior traffic signal engineering expert for District 61, providing high‑level technical guidance and support for traffic signal operations across the district.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑level technical and consultative assistance on traffic signal operations to the district traffic operations engineer and administrator.
• Conduct and review feasibility studies for arterial improvements, including signalized intersections.
• Develop and improve policies and procedures for statewide traffic signal operations.
• Review consultant permit requests for signalized intersections to ensure compliance with contracts and administrative policies.
• Collaborate with other DOTD sections on projects requiring advanced traffic signal expertise.
• Train lower‑level engineers, prepare manuals, and model traffic signal operations.
• Represent the department to federal, state, local officials, media, and the public, providing information on traffic signal operations.

Required profile

• Current Louisiana professional engineering license.
• Either two years of licensed engineering experience or six years of professional engineering experience.
• Advanced degrees may substitute up to two years of experience (master’s = 1 year, doctorate = 2 years).
• Engineering experience earned while licensed is accepted as licensed experience.
