Energy Engineer Internship – Sustainable Building Performance

About the role

Altanova is seeking a motivated Energy Engineer Intern to join its real‑estate group. You will work within a diverse, global team on a variety of building projects, helping to make the built environment more sustainable.

Key responsibilities

• Perform quantitative analyses such as energy and carbon emissions calculations, thermal comfort analysis, life‑cycle cost analysis (LCCA) and life‑cycle assessment (LCA).
• Develop whole‑building energy and performance models to guide design or retrofit strategies.
• Conduct site surveys, auditing, commissioning, retro‑commissioning, and monitoring to verify real‑world performance.
• Support certification processes (Living Building Challenge, PHIUS, LEED) and assist with compliance to energy codes and incentive programs.
• Research emerging technologies and processes for sustainable building design.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, building science, or a related field.
• Knowledge of energy efficiency strategies and building science, including exposure to ASHRAE 90.1, 55, and 62.1.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and mechanical drawings.
• Strong written and spoken English with excellent communication skills.

Required skills

• Energy analysis tools: EnergyPlus, eQuest, Open Studio, Design Builder.
• Programming: C# or Python.
