Employment Program Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The Employment Program Intern will support the International Rescue Committee’s New York employment initiatives, helping newly arrived refugees and immigrants achieve their career goals. This unpaid, on‑site internship offers hands‑on experience in job coaching, client intake, and program administration within a leading humanitarian NGO.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑on‑one job coaching and employment counseling.
• Assist clients with resumes, cover letters, and interview preparation.
• Conduct client enrollments, assessments, and follow‑ups.
• Track client progress using spreadsheets and ETO software.
• Research job and vocational training opportunities in NYC.
• Support virtual Job Readiness Trainings via Zoom or WhatsApp.
• Maintain and update client and employer databases.
• Help with day‑to‑day program operations and administrative tasks.
• Build and sustain employer and partner relationships.
• Collaborate with other IRC teams while upholding confidentiality policies.

Required profile

• Interest or experience in employment or social services.
• Strong English communication skills.
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, French, or Russian is a plus.
• Experience working with immigrant or refugee communities is advantageous.
• Comfortable using email and online platforms.
• Detail‑oriented, proactive, and adaptable.
• Ability to pass a background check.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
